The shorter dressage girth should be chosen so that the buckles sit just above the saddle flaps, without creating extra bulk under the rider's leg. It should sit naturally in the girth groove, well-centered and perfectly flat against the horse's belly.

Girthing should be done gradually and symmetrically, ensuring an even distribution of pressure. The tension must ensure saddle stability while preserving the horse's respiratory comfort: two fingers should be able to pass between the girth and the belly.

An adjustment after a few minutes of walking is recommended to ensure optimal fitting throughout the ride.
The length of the girth should allow the buckles to reach the bottom of the billets, without riding up too high or being too close to the elbow. A girth that is too short creates excessive pressure points, while a girth that is too long compromises saddle stability.

The girth should be positioned naturally in the horse's girth groove, without being artificially pulled forward or backward. Cotton, a breathable material, is particularly suitable for sensitive horses, but it is essential to ensure that the girth lies flat, without wrinkles or twists, to avoid chafing.

Girthing should be progressive and symmetrical. It is recommended to girth alternately on each side, in several stages, to respect the horse's ribcage and promote an even distribution of pressure. Once girthed, the girth should be firm but not excessive: you should be able to pass two fingers between the girth and the horse's belly.
