To ensure effective protection and optimal comfort, it is essential to choose a set of leg boots and hind fetlock boots suited to your horse’s morphology.

The leg boots should properly cover the tendons without extending onto the knee or fetlock, in order to preserve the horse’s natural range of movement. The hind fetlock boots should fit snugly around the fetlock, with the protective shell positioned at the back of the leg and the fasteners facing outward.

Once the boots are in place, check that they are properly centred and sit close against the legs without creating pressure points. The fasteners should be adjusted firmly but comfortably: the boots should neither rotate nor slip, while allowing the horse complete freedom of movement.

Walk your horse a few steps to check that the leg boots and hind fetlock boots remain securely in place. After the session, check for any marks, rubbing or areas of heat, which may indicate that an adjustment is needed.

Properly fitted equipment ensures optimal protection of the horse’s legs, greater comfort and improved durability of your boots.

• How to slide them into position correctly
Open the hind fetlock boot and place it slightly above the fetlock. Then gently slide it downwards until it naturally fits around the fetlock. This downward movement allows the hind fetlock boot to follow the shape of the leg without catching the hair or creating folds.

• Final adjustment
Once in place:
- the hind fetlock boot should be correctly centred,
- the shells or reinforcements should be positioned at the back of the fetlock,
- the fastenings (hook-and-loop or buttons) should face outwards and be closed without excessive tension.
It should remain securely in place without compressing the leg or slipping down during exercise.
