Fetlock boots must be adapted to the horse's size and correctly positioned to protect without hindering. They are put on by sliding them from top to bottom until they naturally fit the fetlock. The protective part should be at the back of the fetlock, with the fastenings facing outwards.

They should stay in place without being excessively tight and should not turn when the horse is moving. Any marks, heat, or discomfort indicate that the fit needs to be re-evaluated.

• How to slide them on correctly
Present the open fetlock boot, then place it slightly above the fetlock. Then gently slide it down until it naturally positions itself around the fetlock.

This up-and-down movement allows the fetlock boot to conform to the shape of the limb, without catching the hair or creating creases.

• Final adjustment
Once in place:
- the fetlock boot must be well-centered,
- the shells or reinforcements must be at the back of the fetlock,
- the fastenings (Velcro or buckles) are placed outwards, fastened without excessive tightness.

It must stay in place without compressing or slipping down during work.
