In horse riding, elastic bands are among the small daily essentials. Used primarily for braiding the mane, they allow for a clean, neat, and comfortable result for the horse. Depending on their material, their uses and the outcome can vary: the most common are classic braiding elastics and silicone elastics.

Braiding elastics are the most used in the stable and during training. Flexible and easy to handle, they offer progressive elasticity that allows for quickly creating braids or plaits without pulling too much on the hair. They are perfect for regular use, for beginner riders, and for fine to medium manes. Their appearance is natural and discreet, but their hold is more limited over time, especially in case of humidity or prolonged use. It is advisable not to overtighten them and to always cut them to remove them in order to preserve the mane.

Silicone elastics, on the other hand, are often preferred for competitions and shows. More resistant and very grippy, they ensure an excellent hold of the plaits, even on thick or difficult manes. Impervious to water and sweat, they guarantee a neat and durable braid throughout the day. However, they are less stretchy and require a bit more precision during application: an overtightened elastic can break the hair. Here too, it is recommended to systematically cut them when removing them.
