A well-adjusted bridle should be stable, symmetrical, and neutral at rest. Each element plays a specific role:

• Headpiece: It should rest behind the ears, without pressing on their base or compressing the poll. If the horse shakes its head or resists when standing still, the headpiece is often the cause.

• Browband: It should fit the forehead without pulling on the headpiece; a browband that is too short creates constant pressure behind the ears.

• Cheek pieces and bit:
The cheek pieces should position the bit at the correct height: generally 1 to 2 small wrinkles at the corners of the mouth. The bit should remain stable, without riding up or pinching.
A bit that is too high or too low disturbs the horse's mouth and relaxation.

• Crossed noseband:
The crossing point should be on the fleshy part of the nose and never on the nasal bone, which is fragile. The cheek pieces should bypass the bone without exerting pressure on it, and the crossing point should remain mobile when the horse chews.

• Throatlatch: It ensures safety, without restricting. A closed fist should be able to pass between the throatlatch and the gullet.

• Essential rules to remember:
- A well-adjusted bridle does not exert any permanent tension.
- If an adjustment is constantly acting, it is too tight.
- The right bridle is one that allows the horse to chew, breathe freely, and remain relaxed, without marks or resistance.
