Leg boot dimensions:
• Size M: shell height 20 cm
• Size L: shell height 21.5 cm

To ensure effective protection and optimal comfort, choose a set of leg boots and hind fetlock boots suited to the shape of your horse’s legs. The synthetic sheepskin lining adds volume inside the boots, so the size should allow even contact with the leg without excessive compression.

Position the Proteck Compet Sheepskin leg boots so that the shell properly protects the tendons and the back of the fetlock, without restricting the natural flexion of the knee. The ergonomic cut at the top of the shell should follow the shape of the leg naturally. If two shell heights are available, choose the one that provides adequate tendon protection without coming too close to the knee.

The double-shell hind fetlock boots should naturally wrap around the fetlock to protect both the inner and outer sides. The two shells should be correctly centred on either side of the fetlock without interfering with the joint, and the fasteners should face outwards.

Once the boots are fitted, check that the synthetic sheepskin lining is evenly distributed, with no folds or compressed areas. The button and elastic strap fastenings should be adjusted to the position that provides a secure fit without excessive pressure: the boots should neither rotate nor slip during movement.

Then walk and trot your horse for a few moments to check that the set remains correctly positioned and follows the horse’s movements freely. Also make sure that the ventilation openings remain unobstructed.

After the session, check for any marks, rubbing or unusual areas of heat. These may indicate that the size, positioning or adjustment needs to be reviewed.

Hind fetlock boots must be positioned carefully to provide effective protection without causing rubbing or excessive pressure.

• How to slide them into position correctly
Present the open hind fetlock boot, then place it slightly above the fetlock. Gently slide it downwards until it naturally sits around the fetlock.
This top-to-bottom movement allows the hind fetlock boot to follow the shape of the leg without catching the hair or creating folds.

• Final adjustment
Once in position:
- the hind fetlock boot should be properly centred,
- the shells or reinforcements should sit at the back of the fetlock,
- the fasteners (hook-and-loop straps or buttons) should face outwards and be closed without excessive tension.
It should stay securely in place without compressing the leg or slipping down during exercise.

Slide it into position; never force it.
A correctly positioned hind fetlock boot provides effective protection while preserving the horse’s freedom of movement and comfort.

These fetlock boots are double-shell models.

In show jumping, they are permitted in Pro and Instructor classes, provided they comply with the regulatory requirements regarding dimensions and fastening systems. They are not permitted in Club, Pony, Amateur or Preparatory divisions, nor in classes restricted to 7-year-old horses, for which only single-shell fetlock boots meeting the specifications set out in the regulations are permitted.

In eventing, double-shell fetlock boots are permitted in the show jumping phase of Pro classes, subject to compliance with the regulations, but are not permitted in the show jumping phase of Amateur classes, according to the 2026 FFE regulations.
