• Bridge Position

The bridge must be centered, stable, and well-seated on the poll. It should not tilt or shift when the horse chews or moves.

• Essential Adjustment Order

A noseband is never adjusted first. Before anything else, ensure that:
- the bit is suitable (shape, width, and thickness),
- the headpiece is correctly positioned,
- the browband is the correct length,
- the bridle lies naturally, without excessive tension.
The noseband should never be used to compensate for a bit or hand problem.

• Noseband Adjustment

It should be positioned two fingers below the zygomatic arch (cheekbone).
- Too high: risk of facial nerve compression and bone pressure points.
- Too low: instability, respiratory discomfort, and interference with the bit.
The bony landmark always takes precedence over visual appearance.

• Tightening: The Golden Rule

Two-finger test: two fingers flat between the noseband and the nasal bone. They should pass without force or compressing the soft tissues.
Beyond measurement, observe the horse above all:
- Positive signs: chewing, swallowing, calm mouth, supple corners of the lips.
- Warning signs: marks, deep creases, cold areas, or defensive reactions after work.

• General Stability

The bridle should not rotate or slip when the horse is in motion. If the bridge moves, the size or adjustment is not suitable.

• Essential Rules

→ A well-adjusted bridge bridle improves comfort without stiffening the mouth.
→ If it leaves marks, acts constantly, or generates defensive reactions, the adjustment should be re-evaluated.
→ The correct adjustment is one the horse forgets, while remaining available, relaxed, and receptive.

The bridge bridle is particularly popular for sensitive horses or those that show resistance, with a slightly “locked” poll or mouth. It is also a good option for horses that express discomfort, such as opening their mouth, tension, or resistance, even when the bridle is well-adjusted. It is primarily used when seeking to regain more relaxation, stability, and softness in the contact.

Its role is not to reinforce the rider's action, but rather to distribute pressure more harmoniously and to relieve sensitive areas, to offer the horse more comfort and better availability in its work.
