The reins must be adapted to the size of the bit and the morphology of the horse's mouth.
An overly short rein can create an overly direct and uncomfortable action, while an overly long rein lacks precision.
Once in place, the rein should rest naturally, without pulling up or down when the reins are at rest.
The correct fitting allows for progressive action, without excessive pressure points, and allows the horse to remain relaxed and mobile in its mouth.
If the bit moves excessively or if the horse's mouth shows signs of discomfort, the adjustment must be reviewed.

The reins' branches must always be oriented outwards to avoid any discomfort or rubbing. The branches must remain free, untwisted, and naturally follow the line of the bit. The reins should act without permanent tension; if the branches are constantly engaged, it means either the action is too strong or the adjustment is unsuitable. The branches should never amplify the effect of the bit, but rather make it softer and more stable.
