To ensure effective protection and optimal comfort, choose a set of leg boots and hind fetlock boots suited to the shape of your horse’s legs.

Position the Design leg boots so that the shell properly protects the tendons and the back of the fetlock, without restricting the natural flexion of the knee. The ergonomic cut at the top of the shell should follow the shape of the leg naturally and remain clear of the joint during movement.

The hind fetlock boots should be positioned by sliding them downwards from the top until they naturally fit around the fetlock. The protective shell should be correctly centred over the area to be protected, with the fasteners facing outwards.

Once the set is fitted, check that each boot sits close against the leg without creating pressure points. The fastenings should be adjusted sufficiently to prevent the boots from rotating or slipping, without applying excessive pressure. On the leg boots, make sure the tension is evenly distributed across the different elastic straps.

Then walk and trot your horse for a few moments to check that the boots remain securely in place and do not restrict movement. Also make sure that the ventilation slots remain clear and are not obstructed by incorrect positioning.

After the session, check for any marks, rubbing or unusual areas of heat. If you notice any, check the size, positioning and adjustment of the boots before the next use.

Hind fetlock boots must be positioned carefully to provide effective protection without causing rubbing or excessive pressure.

• How to slide them into position correctly
Present the open hind fetlock boot, then place it slightly above the fetlock. Gently slide it downwards until it naturally sits around the fetlock.
This top-to-bottom movement allows the hind fetlock boot to follow the shape of the leg without catching the hair or creating folds.

• Final adjustment
Once in position:
- the hind fetlock boot should be properly centred,
- the shells or reinforcements should sit at the back of the fetlock,
- the fasteners (hook-and-loop straps or buttons) should face outwards and be closed without excessive tension.
It should stay securely in place without compressing the leg or slipping down during exercise.
